Hello and welcome to the Eccentric Inline site, where I plan to document all the weird and wonderful ways of moving on inline skates. Regardless of the type of skates you have, there are infinite ways of moving your body with the skates to create novel movements.
One of the recent technological advancements in skating comes in the form of long, rockered frames which allow for stable flatground spinning and carving. This form has become known as wizard skating and the canonical movements have a few parameters, forming 16 possible base tricks.
The initial goal of this website is to document the 16 base wizard skating movements which are each a combination of:
- Left or Right
- Front or Back
- Open or Closed
- Gazelle or Lion
Left and Right should be mirror images of each other, but the rest have unique foot positions and attributes which warrant their own pages and descriptions. Therefore you will find 8 pages, each with the Left and Right variation shown.
Each of the 8 pages contains the following for both right and left variants:
- Wizard Skating Teachings illustration by Jeferson Herculano
- Full speed gif of me performing the move
- 0.3x speed gif of me performing the move
The gifs are all my own, and are linked from Giphy, where they’re hosted publicly if you wish to reference them.
The Base Moves form the foundation of a “classically trained” wizard skater, but of course they are just the beginning. Over time I will work to document the evolving sport and capture the movements that have come to define the genre.
Finally, following in the footsteps of Collin Martin, I will attempt to document the most Eccentric movements that remain fringe but deserve to be brought into the mainstream. This is the realm of compressions and extensions, folding and coiling, and various other principles borrowed from diving, dance, and other sports.
I hope you continue to Turn On, Lean In, and Drop Down with me as I dive into the weird and wonderful world of Eccentric Inline.
